SLEEPY STAFF AT THE HILLMORTON FOODCENTRE COLLECT OVER £430 FOR TERMINALLY ILL PATIENTS IN RUGBY
Colleagues at a popular Rugby store collected more than £430 during a fundraiser for terminally ill patients.
The sight of staff sitting at checkouts in their pyjamas and dressing gowns prompted delighted shoppers at the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Hillmorton Foodcentre to dig deep into their pockets to support the event, in aid of Myton Hospice.
The event took place on Christmas Eve. It was the third annual event of its kind and Karen May, Deputy Store Manager, said it was by far the most successful to date.
She said: “We were absolutely delighted with how much we managed to raise in one day. When you consider everyone has been feeling the pinch, to collect this sum of money, on Christmas Eve of all days, was absolutely fantastic.
“Everyone was in jovial spirits anyway because it was Christmas Eve and seeing all of us parading around the shop in pyjamas seems to have been the icing on the cake. The last two years we have dressed up in Christmassy outfits but this was something a bit different and the customers seemed to really love it.
“We were giving out Roses and Miniature Heroes to people on the day too – they also went down well!”
