HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY COMPLETES FIRST PHASE OF AMBITIOUS £1.9 MILLION PROJECT

HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY RAISES £4,000 FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE HAITI EARTHQUAKEThe first phase of a £1.9 million project giving the Heart of England Co-operative Society's Hinckley Department Store is complete.

Shoppers in the Co-operative, in Castle Street, are benefiting from a fresh design with new frozen food cabinets, environmentally friendly fridges and freezers and a feature wines and spirits area, as part of the new-look food hall.

The Society has invested more than £330,000 in the food hall. As part of the scheme there is also a new 600 sq ft warehouse and a new Co-operative Bakery preparation room.

Peter Fletcher, General Manager of the Society's Food Division, said: "We are delighted with the new-look Co-operative Food and have had some fantastic feedback from customers. Shoppers say they are delighted with the results of the refurbishment."

Work on the scheme began in April. The Non-Food project, which includes a new furniture department, café and customer service office on the ground floor and a new electrical department on the lower ground floor, is scheduled for completion in October.

Ali Kurji, Chief Executive of the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: "We are delighted with the feedback we have had from customers at our Hinckley food hall. Progress with the Non-Food project is also well underway and we look forward to our customers' reactions on this too.

"This year is the 150th anniversary of when we first moved into Hinckley and it is the loyalty of generations of customers which has enabled us to keep a presence in the town for so long. We are delighted to repay that loyalty by investing in our Hinckley store in a bid to improve our customers' shopping experience."
