ROYAL LEAMINGTON SPA CHARITIES SHARE A SLICE OF FUNDING FROM THE HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY’S HELPING HEARTS AWARD SCHEME

Charities and worthy causes in Royal Leamington Spa have been awarded a share of £2,185 from the Heart of England Co-operative Society.

The money has come from the Society’s Helping Hearts Award Scheme which donates every penny of the retailer’s tobacco profits to charities and worthy causes across its trading area.

In Avon Dassett members of the village’s playground committee have received £100 towards the upgrade of existing play equipment. The money will be used towards a £32,000 appeal to carry out the project.

Children at Stockton Primary School near Southam have received £100 towards a community gardening project.

In Royal Leamington Spa, line dance instructor Bill McKechnie has received £50 of gift vouchers towards a charity event on Saturday, May 16th, at The Assembly.

All money from the event will go to the Mayor’s charity appeal in aid of Cancer Research, Age Concern and Sikh Sewa Service Panjab.

And the Long Itchington Moonwalkers, a group of six people set to take part in the Moonwalk in London, have received £25 towards a quiz night which in turn will raise funds for breast cancer patients.

Jo Dyke, Community and Membership Adviser at the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “Every month we received a good number of applications from a real mix of groups from across our trading area of Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. This month is no exception and of course we were delighted to do what we can to help.

“Eighty-five per cent of the applications were successful but for those who weren’t this time there is no reason why the same groups should not re-apply when other projects come up. Next time they may be more successful.”

Anyone who would like to make an application for a donation from Helping Hearts can pick up a form from any one of the Society’s branches.
