STAFF NOTCH UP MORE THAN THREE CENTURIES WITH THE HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
Colleagues who have notched up almost three and a half centuries with the Heart of England Co-operative Society have been rewarded for their loyalty and dedication.
Among the 11 members of staff who have given an impressive 340 years to the Society was Chief Executive Ali Kurji, who received an award for 25 years’ service. Peter Fletcher of the Food Division received an award for 35 years and Richard Arnold, of Attleborough Foodcentre, received an award for an impressive 45 years’service.
Richard, who is 62, was a fresh-faced teenager when he started with the Hinckley Society.
He worked at various stores in and around Hinckley and Nuneaton, starting off as a shop assistant and at one point working his way up to manager.
Richard, who lives with wife Jacqueline in Hinckley, said: “I have been with the Society since I was 16, starting off as a shop assistant.
“I enjoy working with the Society. I have become very used to it and couldn’t imagine working anywhere else. I should think I’ll be here until I’m 65.”
Peter started working in retail after leaving school at the age of 16. Now aged 51 the married father-of-one, who lives in Lutterworth, is Deputy General Manager of the Food Division.
He said: “Having worked for the Co-op for so long I feel my loyalties lie with the Movement. I joined the Board of Directors last year and have a vested interest in the future of the Society. I look forward to continuing my long career with the Society.”
Others to receive the awards at the Retired Employees’ Annual Luncheon and Long Service Presentation were: Brian Thompson, of Willenhall Foodcentre who received an award for 35 years’ service and Maureen Gallagher, of Allesley Foodcentre, Susan Davis, of Earlsdon Foodcentre, Ray Pegg of the Food Trades Office, Caron Malin, of Nuneaton Foodcentre and Martin Thomas, of Rugby Electrical, who have each served 30 years.
Gail Callow, of Nuneaton Foodcentre and John Wesley, of Old Bilton Foodcentre, each received an award for 25 years.
The event took place at the Benn Hall in Rugby.
Ali Kurji said: “I am proud of the loyalty and commitment consistently shown by staff at the Heart of England Co-operative Society. It is their hard work and dedication which is key to the Society’s success. I am pleased to honour the team with Long Service Awards. It is the least they deserve.”
