HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
LEADS THE WAY WITH ‘GREEN’ STORES.
Retailer set to offer 21st century shopping experience to customers in Coundon.
A major refurbishment is planned for the Heart of England Co-operative Society Lateshop in Norman Place Road, Coundon, Coventry.
More than £668,000 will be spent on the store so the Society can offer both staff and customers an enriched and greener shopping experience<
The Society is highly dedicated to operating in an environmentally-aware manner, so the store will feature a number of green initiatives.
In an effort to reduce the store’s carbon footprint the Society will install energy-efficient refrigeration systems, built locally to both reduce transportation and also to support local industry.
Staff are also investigating a new type of lighting that could slash energy consumption as well as eliminate strip lighting, which generates tonnes of waste every year.
The work will also include new ceilings, flooring, lighting and frieze details and the sales area will be expanded to offer more goods, particularly in the fresh food department.
General Manager – Food George Flowers said: ““We recognise our responsibility to the environment and are always thinking of ways to reduce our carbon footprint, even if it means incurring a greater cost.”
“We are also improving facilities for customers as we are a retailer that recognises our obligation to the neighbourhood.
“We are updating this building to fit in with the surrounding area and be something the community can be proud of. That is what people expect from a Co-op store.”
The Society is investing heavily in its stores and in the last few months alone have just completed work worth nearly £1,330,000 on stores in New Bilton in Rugby and Balsall Common. |
