COLLEAGUES BID FOND FAREWELL TO DRIVER BEARER DAVID

David Evans Staff at the Heart of England
Co-operative Society’s Funeral Division in Nuneaton bid a fond farewell to a colleague who retired on the day before his 65th birthday.

David Evans had served six years as a Funeral Assistant with the Society after previously working as a fork lift truck driver for 34 years.

David, who lives in Mancetter with Mary, his wife of 42 years, first landed the job after being asked to help out one day as a driver. He said what started out as a favour to someone who worked within the Funeral Division turned into six long and happy years with the Society.

He said: “I have had an excellent time here at the Heart of England Co-operative Society and have worked with some fantastic people. They are a great team and I am taking many happy memories with me.”

David said he plans to spend his retirement pursuing some of his hobbies.

He said: “I love my garden. I have seven greenhouses and am a keen dahlia grower. Also I have lots of parrots and parakeets so all of these will keep me busy."

“Mary has also retired – she was a planning officer at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. We both enjoy walking so we will be doing lots of that and we will be taking a holiday at some stage.”

Darryl Smith, General Manager of the Society’s Funeral Division, said: “David has done an excellent job over the past six years and was a valued member of the team. He will be greatly missed at the Heart of England Co-operative Society and we wish him well in the future.”
