LORRAINE AND GLENYS CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF TEAMWORK
The Heart of England Co-operative Society has built its hard earned reputation on the hard work of its staff, and their co-operation in store. This cannot be identified better than through the friendship of Lorraine Aucott and Glenys Scarborough, who this year celebrate twenty years since they first started working at Bedworth Electrical on the same day!
The two first met in 1989 when they started preparing the store for its opening two weeks later, and they have been friends ever since.
“We have shared a lot of personal experiences and we know each other inside out,” said Lorraine.
The two are the longest serving members at the store, and have seen a lot of changes, both in staff and the store, but they still enjoy their job. “This is a really friendly town,” said Glenys. “You really get to know the customers - we even exchange greetings in the street.”
Through their long established working relationship the two are full of mutual admiration and respect for each other, and continue to remain friends. Lorraine, who is now a supervisor, describes Glenys as a “lovely person, very upfront but thoughtful and considerate”.
Next year will mark the end of an era for the pair as Glenys, now 59, plans to retire.
The Sales Advisor is looking forward to her retirement, but will always remember her friendship with Lorraine. She said: “We used to go on a lot of girly nights out when we were younger and also got together at Christmas. But that has slowed down a bit now since I’m one year away from retiring!”
Lorraine and Glenys have come along way from the young women who first started setting up the store in 1989, and have both worked hard to get the store to where it is today. And Lorraine thinks their friendship definitely helped in their work: “When I first met Glenys we got on really well because we mucked in together and she was a real key player,” she said.
“We had a mammoth task but we got there!”
