Our Society is part of the two largest and most powerful buying groups in the country, allowing our customers to choose from a full range of products at very competitive prices.
Our Electrical Division is part of the Co-op Electrical Buying Group, one of the UK’s largest electrical independent buying groups. This allows us to stock a comprehensive range of electrical items, from TVs to toasters and from fridges to food mixers.
As we are able to take advantage of bulk buying and end of line specials we are able to pass the benefits on to you, our customers, through promotions and deals.
As well as a wider range of goods there are also higher levels of stock availability, resulting in a faster, more efficient service.
To offer you the very best we regularly monitor our range of products and add new lines, as technology changes
In June 2010 we invested £1 million in a new Electronic Point of Sales system giving us a full picture, hour by hour, on our stock. This state-of-the-art system highlights lines that need replenishing and produces a list of suggestions for orders. This allows us, with greater efficiency, to ensure we are always well stocked up in our most popular lines and to plan our promotions more effectively, allowing you, our customers, passing the benefits on to you, our customers.
Similarly, we obtain our furniture and homewares through Associated Independent Stores – which is the largest independent buying group in the UK. Again this allows us stock a comprehensive range, which we constantly update, at extremely competitive prices. Our stock includes a selection of modern contemporary furniture and contrary to the common perception our range appeals only to the older generation an increasing number of young couples and first time buyers are seeking our help in furnishing their homes.
In April 2010 we announced plans for a £1.9 million facelift of our Hinckley Department store, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
The work, which is ongoing at the moment, involves a complete fresh design of the Castle Street store to help it cope with the demands of the modern shopper.
Once complete the new store will include a furniture department, new café and a customer service office on the ground floor. The lower ground floor will house an electrical department. Due to increased retail space in the new look store we are expanding our range of furniture, electricals, houseware, floor coverings, gifts, fashions and menswear.
In Rugby, work on a £2.95 million Electrical, Furniture and Carpets store is ongoing as part of the prestigious Chapel Street development, which is taking in new retailers as we speak.
Our new store will house an extensive range of white and brown electrical goods, furniture and carpets. At more than 14,000 sq ft the development is twice the size of our existing store in Sheep Street.
Our electrical department will offer an extensive range of all leading brands including Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Indesit, Bosch, Electrolux, Hotpoint, Miele, Whirlpool and Zanussi.
Customers coming to us for new furniture will find a wide range of upholstery – with leather and fabric choices in modern and traditional styles, lounge furniture and bedroom furniture, with both branded and exclusive ranges.
Our carpet department will offer a range of brands and styles, at prices to suit all budgets. As the leading independent retailer we recognise times are still hard and customers at Rugby, as well as our other Department Stores, will be able to make savings on frequent special offers including free fitting and free underlay.
Headed by General Manager Bryan Wheatley, our Non-Food Division employs around 250 people and operates out of eight locations plus a large distribution centre handling 25,000 deliveries per year. It includes three department stores, eight electrical departments, five furniture departments, three carpet departments, one toy department, three giftware departments, two nursery departments, three cafes, and two menswear / fashion departments.
